while ongoing yammering about the economic recession generates tensions and financial unease chews away people’s soul, it’s our pleasure to let you know: good things still do happen. 17th young dance festival will take place on july 5-11 in viljandi. notafe is a good occasion to step out of daily routine and focus on ourselves, our abilities and skills, our inner balance. as always, international summer school is an essential part of notafe. in summer school classes participants can acquaint themselves with different art forms and faraway cultures through immediate communication. this year the timetable of summer school is professionally more inclined towards theatre and geographically towards eastern countries. to theatre professionals we offer a chance to get to know the decroux`s corporeal mime method which helps to enhance and to channel actor’s inner energy and learn to work with inner muscles. decroux’s method is taught by elke luyten, actor and long-time assistant of a well-known master thomas leabhart from the usa. once again the senior teacher of action theatre sten rudström from germany is here. this time his workshop is meant for all who are interested, previous experience is recommendable. voice and movement are the main instruments also in laban technique’s workshop, led by satu palokangas. it’s the first time at the festival for renowned dancer and teacher from india, ruta kambli, who makes us more familiar with eastern culture. makiko otogino, who performed at the last festival, teaches japanese contemporary dance butoh. sensei takashi tsumura focuses on qi gong and oriental arts in the natural silence in männiku forest farm. sensei kauko uusoksa unveils the martial side of qi gong, his workshop is titled „qi gong as a part of martial arts, and self-defence“. those interested in movement are also welcomed to workshops given by well-known summer school teacher sybrig dokter from sweden and andrea keiz from germany. this year sybrig teaches dance technique, andrea focuses on perception in her workshop. as always, all dance video enthusiasts are expected to take part in the workshop, perception is examined from the viewpoint – among others – of making a video. on july 5 paulo ribeiro, great figure of portugese contemporary dance, will conduct his master class. master class is free of charge for those who will take part in two workshops of the festival during the following days. in the schedule of this summer school there is also a circus workshop for children between 8 and 15. teacher: master juggler marco bonissimo from the netherlands, whose estonian is almost perfect. as on earlier years, there will be performances of contemporary dance and theatre every night, this time on specially built white stage in viljandi sports centre. contact improvisation jam sessions take place in late hours under the direction of different teachers. last but not least: viljandi is damn beautiful in summertime!

5 classes in the morning, 5 classes in the afternoon. viljandi has got a brand new theatre. in the sports building - performing artists and athletes have joined their hands. there were butterflies flying in the new theatre. and slippers flying in the music-house. slipper |ˈslipər| a comfortable slip-on shoe that is worn indoors. don't ASK what it was. if you missed it. improvisation. no-ta-fe-no-ta-fe-no-ta-fe.
